A Day in the Life: John Legend and The Roots Concert Presented by BlackAtlas.com

There are few artists that will get me out to a concert on a weeknight, and John Legend is one of them. The Grammy Award-winning artist with the smooth-as-velvet voice and hypnotic melodies puts on one hell of a show, and Monday night was no exception. If you've been lucky enough to see him perform, you'll agree his performances are emotive and magical. Add The super-group The Roots to the lineup, with Twitter-star ?uestlove at the helm, and you have a memorable concert no one would want to miss---even on a Monday!

Last week, on Ferocia's birthday, she and I went downtown to the Bowery Ballroom to attend the concert, one of the first of a series of events presented by American Airlines' BlackAtlas.com that will include functions with Russell Simmons and celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson down the line.

What is American Airlines' BlackAtlas.com, you ask? Well, besides music and (obviously) writing, my other favorite pastime is traveling. BlackAtlas.com brings all my loves together with a social networking site that features compelling travel content alongside video, commentary, photos, blogs and discussion boards. The appeal? It allows users to share traveling experiences, tips and recommendations with people from all over the world. Pretty cool, right?

I would love to share tips (i.e. when visiting Negril, Jamaica, venture away from the strip to really embrace Jamaican culture and not just the tourist experience) and stories (like my famed karaoke and sushi moments in Tokyo) with BlackAtlas.com users while benefiting from their anecdotes and advice, wouldn't you?

You can even build travel itineraries (something my roommate is famous for) based on BlackAtlas.com user recommendations before you set foot on your flight. Love it!

And that's not all. Venture over to BlackAtlas.com for features from travel expert-at-large world traveler, author, filmmaker and TV Producer Nelson George and an exclusive interview with John Legend. Speaking of John Legend, the concert was a soulful, fun and lively experience with Legend belting out some of his famous tunes and The Roots reminding me why I love live music. Look out for their new album, Wake Up! which covers great songs from the '60's and '70's, and check out images and video from the event below:

And check out BlackAtlas.com and tell us what you think!
